Have you ever wondered what it would be like to visit a real classical music concert? Loosing yourself in the timeless sounds of world famous composers? We’ve curated a special series just for you. These are musthears! The classical music bucketlist for this year and this year only. First up: ‘the innovator’ Messiaen.

Who is Messiaen?

What a life he had. This gifted French composer organist was captured by ‘Ze Germans’ early in the Second World War. But he continued to compose, practice and play, eventually performing in captivity for 5000 prisoners of war at the Stalag barracks, a working camp in Poland.“Nowhere and never before have so many people listened with understanding and attention to my work”. was how he described the experience. That in itself is an amazing feat. But he is most famous for his Turangalîla-Symphonie. You simply have to hear it. It’s a must-hear!

Turangalîla what?

Perhaps you’ve heard of Tristan & Isolde? By Richard Wagner? That work was a great source of inspiration for Messiaen, who frmly believed that sexual love is the Devine gift. Turangalîla-Symphonie is one of the most impressive works of the 20th century. It is a meditation of joy and the human union, consisting of ten movements. It is a world of ecstasy and oriental exotique mysticism. In short, it’s the perfect backdrop for that amazing date, where you need something very very specialthat won’t be forgotten any time soon. Do something classic for that special guy or girl. Let’s get Messiaen!

What can you expect?
